In the NewGen generator, the outside rotor is supported by steel wheels.

Direct drive generators eliminate the complexity and down-time connected with the use of gearboxes in large wind turbines. But they tend to be heavy and expensive.

The NewGen direct drive generator concept is based on a novel type of mechanical design, with the outside rotor supported by steel wheels around the periphery of the stator. The design saves structural weight, compared with the conventional central bearings. It also enables a further increase of the diameter, which also saves on the amount of magnets, copper windings and stator iron needed.

The NewGen is available for wind turbines with ratings of 2 MW and above. Design according to the buyer’s specification.

Patent valid in the U.S. and in Sweden, pending elsewhere. Further patent applications pending.
